The Societe Generale Valley RFC Womens Premiership team clinched the coveted Hong Kong China Rugby Nan Fung Group | Airside Women’s Premiership Grand Championship title on the past weekend defeating Hong Kong Football Club 7-3 in a wet and windy affair at Kings Park Sports Ground.

HKFC scored the first points on the board with an early penalty in the first half however that was all that was on offer for the day from the side. Valley RFC’s Tiffany Fu chose the right moment to score her first try of the season, as she was the only player to get over the tryline on the back of some strong forward carries, with a tidy conversion added by Zoe Smith. The weather dampened the attacking flair the team played with this season, however there were some outstanding performances by veteran Olivia Coady and Hasting Leiataua who helped get their team to the full 80 with a win.

Head Coach Bella Milo commented “I am very proud of our players. They have worked hard all season and have put on some pretty amazing performances. After Christmas our main focus was ‘Defence wins Titles’ and, on the weekend, it showed against a physical HKFC team”

The win this season adds another trophy to the cabinet for the Valley RFC Womens Premiership side who have won the Grand Championship Premiership title 13 times during the past 16 seasons, maintaining their dominance in the women’s game in Hong Kong. Several youngster’s and players from the Championship side made their debut for the team this season, which highlights the depth and places the program in good stead.

Final words of the season goes to captain Kea Herewini, “To be able to win the Grand Champs again for the three peat, has been amazing, and to do it with the girls I can proudly call family is even better. The hard work the players, coaches, and management have put into this season has not gone unnoticed. I’m truly proud of every single person who represented our Women’s community here at Valley this season, and it truly shows that it takes more than a game day 23! Here’s to another exciting season ahead in the Red and Black!"
