Societe Generale Valley RFC Reds were crowned 2024-2025 HKCR Womens Championship League winners today as they defeated Gai Wu, 24 -17 in the final game of the league round. The Valley Reds are the Club's second division women's team, and play in the league below the Premiership.
The team pulled off a clean sheet of wins, going on to win 10 out of 10 games this season - scoring 333 points and conceding only 27 points in the process.
Coached by KK and So Jai - the team, who are led from the front by Lily Tsang, K Wong and Au Shuwan have gelled together a good mix of new and experienced players.
The Valley Reds will now be grouped into the Championship A competition for the remainder of the season, where the top 4 teams will go on to contest the Grand Championship.
Coach KK Wong had this to say about the Valley Reds:
"This is the 50th season for Valley RFC and the 13th season since we have the Valley Reds team, for this season we are targeting both the league and Grand Championship trophy, something we have not achieved before.
We have 3 Womens teams this year with really good numbers, our long term goal is to develop more Hong Kong based players through our pathway of the Golds and Reds team. Some player may go on to play in the Premiership team, where as some players remain comfortable to play community rugby. As long as we continue offering both opportunities, we will have a successful program.
Our main goal, most importantly is to keep passing on our Valley Family spirit to the next generation. To let them know we are not just teammates, but we are a Family".
We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to our sponsors Societe Generale, Tai Koo Place Swire Properties, Go Links Moving, Swire Beverages, Typhoon Consulting, Charter Junks HK, T8 First Response and ONLY Beverages for their continuous support this season.
